Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro getting MIUI 9 based on Android Oreo this week
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is finally getting updated to Android Oreo in India. If you own the Redmi Note 5 Pro then you will receive a new version of MIUI 9 based on Android Oreo starting from June 29. The Chinese smartphone maker confirmed the Oreo update schedule on Twitter.
The company confirms that Redmi Note 5 Pro users will get an update to MIUI 9.5, which will be based on Android Oreo. The smartphone, since its launch in March, has been stuck on Android 7.1.2 Nougat and will get a taste of Oreo later this week. The update will be released in a phased manner and if you don’t get the update during the first phase then you will only need to wait for a bit longer.
The global ROM based on Android Oreo will carry the build number 9.5.6.0.OEIMIFA. The update was in beta for a long time and the company had to squash a number of bugs. Now, the update has been deemed stable and is ready for being released as over-the-air update for Redmi Note 5 Pro. It needs to be noted that the smartphone is getting a version of Android, which was released in August last year.
This further shows the poor state of Android smartphones, especially ones running forked version of the mobile operating system. Google is preparing to release the final version of Android P, which is being tested in beta since May. The update might take several months to reach smartphones from brands like Xiaomi.
To recall, the Redmi Note 5 Pro was launched in March as a global exclusive and a high-end successor to last year’s Redmi Note 4. Xiaomi sold over 9 million units of Redmi Note 4 and it hopes to replicate the same success with the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
